Every cover tells a story #1
An idea conceptualize by one of our members, Eddie Yong. This series is about the stories behind the First Day Covers.
Let me kick off this "Every cover tells a story" Series with this formation of Federation Malaysia of which Singapore joined on 16 Sep 1963.
After the holding of the Singapore National Refrendum and the visit of Lord Cobbold Inter Government Committe Commission to North Borneo (Sabah) and Sarawak, it was decided by the... British Government and the Government of the Federation of Malaya to form Federation of Malaysia by 31 August 1963. But protest by Philippines and Indonesia to the merger led to the delay but it was finally formed on th 16 Sep 1963.
In this cover, the Singapore flag was included as one of the state of the Federation of Malaysia. If you count the no of horizontal stripes on the Malaysia flag, there are actually 14 of them each representing a state of the Federation of Malaysia.
